Recovery Specialists is an entry level position that is part of an interdisciplinary team that provides support services for patients addicted to alcohol and other drugs during their first year of recovery. The overall goal of the Recovery Specialist is to monitor behaviors, care for and provide assistance to patients in early abstinence.

Programs

• Acute Treatment Services (Detox) – Is a 35-bed medically monitored detox unit for alcohol and opioid use disorders
• Askia Academy – Serves a maximum of 25 men in ongoing recovery for up to one year
• John Flowers Recovery Home – Provides residential support for 21 men for up to six months following completion of a detox program
• My Sister’s House – Provides longer-term residential and supportive care for a maximum of 22 women for up to one year
• Ruth Kelley Ummis House – Provides housing and intensive case management to women and children.
• Women’s Renewal-Clinical Stabilization – Provides intensive clinical services for up to 20 women from one to four weeks, addressing the complex needs of women in early recovery

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED (Associates or Bachelor’s degree is a plus)
• Prior experience working in a recovery setting is a plus; but is not a requirement
• Valid Driver’s License is required
• Non-judgmental character with the ability to handle stressful encounters
• The ability to de-escalate behaviors

Recovery Specialists are responsibilities include

• Supports all milieu staff in all aspects of the program including: safety checks, patient and room searches, supporting patient’s admission and discharge processes
• Participate in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for new patients in the program
• Conduct property search of patients’ belongings on admission and discharge
• Observe & report to Director patients that appear sick, agitated or depressed
• Use negotiating skills to minimize and de-escalate potentially dangerous situations
• Supervise and support patients as needed throughout the program day
• Assist new patients who enter the program with paperwork, orientation and settling in
• Establish and maintain boundaries for patients to ensure patient safety
